Slashdot Isn’t About News

June 26, 2006

Despite the fact that Slashdot bills itself as “News for Nerds”, it really isn’t about the news anymore. It hasn’t been about the new for a couple years now. Anyone who’s tuned into the blogosphere reads about things a couple days before they end up on Slashdot. The value in Slashdot is in the user community and the comments, which are usually more insightful than the article postings themselves. Which is why I’m especially curious to watch the comments on the Slashdot post about the fact that Business 2.0 has declared Rob Malda, creator of Slashdot, as one of the 10 people who don’t matter.
