Donald Trump mentions he heard Tim Allen speak about his method of organizing his “to dos” and goals. According to Trump, Allen simply keeps three lists:
- Goals to complete in life.
- Tasks to perform this year in order to meet those life goals.
- Tasks to perform today in order to meet those life goals.
Sounds like a good system to me… like GTD, it focuses on breaking things down into manageable tasks. Rather than say “I want to have $1,000,000 for retirement”, using Allen’s three lists one would need to set a yearly savings goal, and then a concrete plan of what can be done each day to meet that goal.
Personally I keep trying assorted methods to keep track of things, and seem to always fall back on using Google Calendar to keep track of dates and dated to-dos, and my Gmail inbox for more general tasks.
