Questioning the Republican Party

October 2, 2006

Pretty much all of my voting life I’ve considered myself a Republican. I’ve never voted for a Democratic candidate for president, senator, representative, or most other major political offices. Over the past couple of years, I’ve realized that on some issues, my feelings really aren’t in line with the typical conservative platform of the Republican party.

I think Rudy Giuliani would make a fine president, and in conversations I often note that it would be difficult for him to get the nod from the Republican party because of his views on gay rights and abortion.

Finally it hit me that my views, at least on the surface, seem to be a lot more in line with the Libertarian Party than the Republicans. This deserves some exploration on an issue-by-issue basis, to be posted over the next couple of days…
