It sounds like Google has finally figured out that 30+ mostly-unrelated products does not make a successful product line.
There’s a lot of companies out there creating a lot of different products that compete with Google’s various mail/calendar/mapping/chatting/photo products, and if Google gets complacent and doesn’t continually enhance their own line of wares, folks will move away. There’s not much brand loyalty when it comes to online services, with the possible exception being e-mail.
