Parental Irresponsibility

Last Saturday, a 2-year old boy was killed in Washington state when he fell out of his parents van as they rounded a corner.

Today, Seattle’s ABC affiliate KOMO news uses the following headline: Faulty van door may have led to death of toddler.

No.  The parents’ irresponsibility and failure to have their child in a proper car seat is the number one factor leading to his death.  Even if the door hadn’t failed, I have to wonder what sorts of injuries the child might have from being thrown against the door?  It’s a tragedy that a child lost his life in this manner, but the primary responsibility for the incident rests squarely on the shoulders of the parents.  Attempting to blame a car door is shifting the blame, and wrongly so…
