Google’s “Platypus” GDrive - Not for Public Consumption

October 13, 2006

News about Google’s rumored “GDrive” product, code named Platypus and widely thought to be an online backup or distributed file storage system has been out for a few months now.  Over at Google Blogoscoped they have screenshots and info on a leaked version of the client.

Long story short: it’s not a public product.  The help pages and documentation make it clear this is something designed for internal Google use only.

Does that mean it could never be public?  Of course not.  But it’s definitely not anywhere near ready for public release in its current form.
