Google Reader Roundup
We’ve probably all read what the big boys (Scoble, TechCrunch, Lifehacker, etc) have said about the new Google Reader, but here’s a compilation of what some “ordinary” bloggers have to say:
- Audrey at Dyepot, Teapot says things are timing out and she can’t use the service if it’s broken. I haven’t run into downtime myself, but she’s not the only one.
- Andrew Grant offers up a solution for customizing the shared item javascript chunk for better use on your personal website or blog (as offered by Google, the formatting can’t be tweaked).
- Stephanie Booth thinks the sharing function is the biggest reason she might be switching to Google Reader
- Nick at Primordial Ooze loves the service until he tries the mobile version. He offers a good comparison (with screenshots) with Bloglines.
- Andrew Terry is one of many noticing there isn’t a search function. Odd, given that Google is (in theory) a search company. This is one of my biggest complaints as well.
- Doctorvee loves many things including stars, reverse-chronological sorting, and the smooth OPML import. He has a few complaints too, go check them out.
- If you use Opera, which Google doesn’t support, TechBuzz points to a script to make it work.
- Over at Life of Robert, he goes though his loves and hates with the product, specifically mentioning a few things I love, including the “mark read as I scroll by” feature.
- EirePrenuer explores a scenario in which the “Next” bookmarklet actually makes sense. I still think that the Next bookmarklet pretty much is entirely opposite of the point of using an aggregator.
- The Zero Boss says that Google Readers “almost completes” him, and tells us why.
