The folks over at Blogging Pro have taken a look at the alpha release of WordPress 2.1. Here’s my thoughts on what they found:
- Yawn.
That’s right. From their fairly short review, from what I can tell apparently all that’s changed is they made the control panel look prettier and tweaked the links management a bit. They didn’t test plugins or anything that actually matters to a real blog. I was expecting that there might be something substantial in this release, and I suspect that there is… did the BloggingPro folks miss the boat on this one?

Nope, I don’t think I missed the boat. I will do another post on testing out a variety of popular plugins, but for the most part, it looks like they are trying to fix things and make the package more mature, not a revolutionary release, at least in its alpha form.
David, thanks for the quick comment. I guess I was just expecting that a .1 release would have some sort of functionality changes, not just UI prettiness. I guess I was wrong.
You and me both man… I was surprised that more had not been done. I know they are working on tons of backend code and trying to slowly impliment the new design elements but I was expecting more too.
I must say though it does make a good alternative to 2.0.5, and so I will probably use it more and more unless I find problems with my favourite plugins over the coming weeks.
