FeedCycle Contest: RSS Meets Christmas

I’ve heard of FeedCycle when reading about RSS in the past but haven’t really spent time learning about what they do… until today. Why? Because I heard about the FeedCycle Twelve days of Christmas competition. Follow that link to find out more but here’s a short summary:

Entrants will use a FeedCycle account to publish a serialized RSS feed on the topic “Twelve Days of Christmas.” I had to stop there and find out what serialized RSS was all about. Instead of a traditional RSS feed where a subscriber starts on the current content and moves forward, a serialized RSS feed is for a set of posts that need to be seen in a particular order, and started from the beginning. A great example is some sort of class or tutorial where the viewer needs to start at the beginning.

The entries will be judged based on adherence to the topic, style, originality, and other factors outlined in more detail on the website. They’re giving away cash prizes ($500 for first place, $300 for second place). If you’re the creative type, are good at generating interesting content, and have a few spare cycles this sounds like something fun to do. Of course, you can use the content for your Christmas entry as you please since you’ll own the full copyright (which apparently is one of FeedCycle’s standard terms… good for them).

Get out there, and get Christmasing!
