PayPerPost now has a competitor and it could potentially shake up the paid blog content scene in a big way. Today is the launch of ReviewMe. Unlike PayPerPost’s variable pricing strategy which led to the “selling your soul for $4″ comments, ReviewMe determines a flat rate as the advertising price for a particular blog. It works like this: you submit a blog for approval, and the blog advertising rate is set using a variety of popularity and credibility factors such as Alexa and Technorati rankings. It wouldn’t surprise me if PageRank probably comes into the picture as well.
Another major issue is that of disclosure. PayPerPost requires none; ReviewMe mandates that bloggers disclose that a post is sponsored in some fashion as part of the blog post. For many folks this was the major sticking point with PayPerPost, with the notion that a blog couldn’t be credible if it posted undisclosed sponsored content. My personal thoughts are that if a blogger is honest and offers genuine (positive or negative) opinions that the sponsorship shouldn’t be a huge matter, but in order to be honest with my readers I always disclose when I’m posting sponsored content.
As an additional incentive for new bloggers to join, they’re going to pay out $25,000 to new bloggers who join and then write about the site. That fact alone makes it worth spending a few minutes of your time to check it out.
