Last month I attended the first Portland Social Media meetup and chatted for a bit with one of the guys behind AboutUs which is a newly-launched wiki-based website that wants to become an authoritative directory of domains.
I see that yesterday AboutUs got some press from TechCrunch after securing a bunch of funding. The reaction to the site has been mixed, with some people seeing it as a useful directory, and a bunch of folks concerned that the site will falsely represent other domains and that users might get confused thinking that an AboutUs page is somehow related to the original domain.
My take? Each domain page at AboutUs should have some sort of disclaimer/explanation at the top (one line would do, in a distinguished typeface or style) that explains that AboutUs is a meta-site not affiliated with the domain.
