If you check the news, you’ll see that the northwest got hammered by a big storm last night. This e-mail I sent to my project team sums up how things are around here:
You know it’s been a good storm when the state is using snowplows to
clear downed branches on a 4-lane expressway near my house. After a joyful morning that involved gathering portions of my roof
from across several front yards, water dripping into the kitchen, a
trip to Home Depot, patching the roof, finally getting cleaned up,
driving into the office, discovering the office has no connectivity,
picking up my laptop and going back home… I’m now online.I’ll be working from home as I’m able. I’ll also likely be working
tomorrow for a while to make up some lost time. If you need to get
hold of me, e-mail or Jabber is best, but you can also use my cell if
needed. In what might be the one bright spot of this adventure, I just got a
call back from State Farm and they’ve declared this a catastrophe so
if I make a homeowner’s claim it won’t count against my policy for
rates and such in the future. And just for the heck of it, we now have snow that’s sticking my yard.
I wonder if I should be on the lookout for locusts…
As a postscript, we now have about an inch of accumulated hail and the power has flickered again a couple times.
