Blogger Plays Catch-Up

Google has released their latest version of Blogger, and as I review their list of new features I can’t help but yawn. There’s nothing innovative, but merely the porting of features that currently exist in other blog platforms. One by one:

  • You can add stuff to your blog (cute cat photos, lists, feeds) without needing to know HTML. Sounds like WordPress widgets.
  • You can also make a completely unique template that has just the color scheme you want, without knowing any CSS. Sounds like what you can do with some WordPress or LiveJournal themes.
  • Don’t want your mom to read your thoughts? Make a private blog. Sounds just like the private blog options offered by WordPress and LiveJournal.
  • Label your posts, to group related ones together. Wow. Categories! Never heard of those before…
  • Use one of our new templates. Hardly a .0 feature…

Seriously, Google. Do you guys have anyone working on any sort of innovation for Blogger? Pretty please?
