The Blog Herald has recently gone through some upheaval, being sold and having their bloggers leave, replaced with new voices. Today I came across a post from their site titled A Blogger’s New Year’s Resolutions and as I read through it I had to sadly hope that things are getting better from here. I used to enjoy many of the articles on the site, but this one is quite bad. Excerpts and comments:
“Trim down my RSS subscriptions and keep it that way” – I’m not sure how reading less sources is going to improve one’s blogging. If it’s a need to be better organized that’s one thing, but cutting numbers just to cut numbers isn’t a good plan. The author mentions using Bloglines, so perhaps a better resolution would be an aggregator that allows one to read feeds faster… perhaps Google Reader or FeedDemon.
“Manage my time better.” – Yawn. That’s a perpetual resolution that everyone talks about. Nail down something concrete. Have a plan.
“Write better content.” – Again, a non-item. Of course you want to write better content. Having this as a resolution is the equivalent of an airline pilot having a resolution to not plunge into the ocean with a plane full of passengers.
“Keep abreast of new trends and technologies.” – Another non-item. The things being listed as resolutions are things that any competent blogger would be doing. For another analogy, this would be the equivalent of a police officer resolving to adhere to new laws.
Come on Blog Herald… is this the best that the new folks can offer?

Thanks for the comments, Aaron. I guess I should have been more specific with what I wanted.
Cheers.
