A-List Bloggers: They’ve Got Toy Money

March 24, 2007

As I was reading some blogs this week I noticed something about several of the A-listers which stuck out at me: they have a bunch of cash laying around, ready to drop it on the purchase of the latest greatest geek toy.

I don’t mean that in a bad, or snarky way.  It’ s just an observation, which struck me when Scoble bought an Apple TV as soon as it was released.  He has the cash to do it, so he gets to play with it right away, and can post about it (good or bad).  Which, in turn, gets him linked and drives blog traffic to his site.  Which increases his popularity, reaffirming his place as an A-lister.

And thus I theorize: if one had a pig pile of cash, they could buy the latest gadgets, blog about them, and become popular.

I understand that’s not how Scoble got noticed originally, but if some random blogger wanted to make a name for themselves, posting about the latest hardware gadgets would be an easy way to do it…

High traffic gadget blogs like http://engadget.com don’t even need to buy the toys. They’re so popular that companies send them samples for review. ;)
