Flickr Filters: Mainstream Hassles
This week Flickr rolled out a new system called Filters, which allows one to fine-tune what types of images they see on the photo sharing site. Those of you who are concerned with accidentally seeing breasts will probably applaud these moves. Instead of the previous this-image-might-offend-someone option, you can now assign a level of appropriateness to your photos, as well as noting if they are photos, cgi work, or screenshots.
I suppose this is something that a vocal group has been asking for, but I really don’t see it as anything that’s going to affect my usage of the site at all. Then again, I haven’t had anyone who has wanted to post nude for me yet. But I guess if Flickr wants to play in the mainstream, they have to offer such things.
Oh, and the COPA has been ruled unconstitutional. Just sayin’…
