Whose Sidewalks? Everybody’s Sidewalks! Without Tape, Of Course
Last night I joined over 100 other folks and walked most of the route of the Grand Floral Parade, ripping up the litter tape which lines the route in advance of the event. A bunch of people seem to think they can just drive by, throw down some tape, and claim their rights to a public sidewalk. I have just as much right to go remove that tape, and so that’s what we did.
It was a mostly peaceful event, with a couple people along the parade route choosing to get into verbal altercations with those of us picking up tape. Which was a bit misdirected… really… we have no issue with folks who chose to camp out. We left them alone and were friendly, thanking them for camping out and supporting the true tradition.
Thanks to the Mercury folks for organizing this. Thanks to the folks who participated. Thanks to the folks camped out along the route who were mostly supportive.
