Blog Comments from Mobile Devices
Since acquiring a Blackberry last month, I’ve been doing a lot of feed reading while mobile. Consequently I’ve wanted to leave comments on a bunch of blogs from my Blackberry. I’ve been disappointed with the state of mobile commenting. My first negative experience was with Metroblogging Portland, where I discovered that even using their mobile interface you’re unable to leave a comment from a Blackberry. After you spend your time typing in the comment, you attempt to submit but are stopped by a Javascript issue. I have contacted the site administrators and I’ve heard rumors a fix is coming.
Yesterday, on my way home, I was browsing BlogTown and again attempted that precarious of all adventures, leaving a blog comment from my Blackberry. Once again, I spent a few minutes typing in my personal information and my comment, then hit submit, and was repeatedly greeted by HTTP 502 errors. I have no idea what the underlying problem was, but the result was the same: no commenting for me.
Am I happy that all of my WordPress blogs work just fine out of the box with mobile browsers? Hell yeah. Am I cranky that it seems many other blog platforms are just plain broken for the Blackberry? Oh yeah. It’s 2007. Blog commenting from a mobile device shouldn’t be this damn hard.
