Mainstream Media and Quality

February 26, 2008

Mainstream media picks on bloggers, claiming we should leave the journalism to professionals. Then, the professionals pump out rubbish like this:

CNN Flubs a Headline

This would be a CNN headline which has reversed the cause-and-effect relationship between the massive Florida power outage and a nuclear plant shutdown. The outage caused the shutdown, as indicated by the article text. The headline, however, indicates the outage was due to a nuclear shutdown.

Proofreading? Quality? Hah. Why bother. Let’s just throw a bogus headline about the touchy subject of nuclear safety out there and see how many clickthroughs we can get.
